A Safelist is The future of
Internet Marketing
If you are an Internet marketer or you own a small business and you
have
tried promoting your business online, you have most likely tried any
number of marketing or advertising tactics, which have fallen short
of being fruitful.
Advertising mediums such as opt-in lists, and traditional safelists
(even the paid ones) are no longer an effective form of advertising
on the Internet due to the fact that subscribers of these lists
create a secondary email address also known as a "Junk, Dump, or
Marketing Email Address".
Very few real humans will ever see the email you send to other
subscribers of opt-in lists and traditional safelists because most
users only maintain a deliverable email address so that they can
send "X" amount of messages to a large list of other "Junk" or
"Dump" accounts... What a waste of time, energy, and Internet
resources.
Another example of the rapidly changing Internet marketing
environment is the use of FFA, or Free For All link pages. These are
pages where Internet marketers can post an advertisement on a simple
page listing links to categorized websites.
When the advertising party "posts" and ad to the page, their email
address is captured, and the page owner will send the "posting
party" what is known as a reverse marketing message... Pretty clever
tactic for the FFA page owner!
As this type of advertising caught on, more and more companies began
to spring up offering to "Host" a FFA page for you so you could
capture the email address of the "free posters" and send reverse
marketing messages to them about your products or services.
As this technique began to evolve, more and more of these FFA pages
get listed with "mass submission companies" which will allow the
"posting party" to submit to thousands of these pages with one click
of a single button.
Guess what happens when the "posting party" or email recipient ends
up
getting thousands of reverse marketing messages?
This "posting" email address will quickly get converted to a "dump"
address so the "posting party" can continue posting his or her email
advertisement without the consequence of receiving thousands of
"reverse marketing messages". In fact, the mass submission companies
even recommend that you use a "dump" email address before posting.
This madness has even gone a step beyond... Now, reverse marketing
messages are being auto-replied to with "double reverse" marketing
messages and these auto replies are being auto-replied to by email
autoresponders and auto-bots with guess what? Yes, even more
reverse marketing messages. What a waste of time, energy, and
Internet resources.
Is new better?
A short time ago, (in Internet marketing years) traffic exchange
programs came on to the Internet scene, and promised to become the
wave of the future. Once again, we used these new traffic
resources and accurate tracking proved these to be a reliable method
of advertising and they did bring quality traffic to our website in
the beginning.
As time passed however, we began to notice a decline in the
subscriptions to lead capture pages rotating through these programs
which is a strong indication that real humans are not visiting our
webpages at all.
In fact, there are several auto-surf browsers you can now purchase
which will in essence cheat these programs by tallying hits up for
the user without having to actually view or visit anything but a
small image of a webpage.
The proprietors of the traffic programs will argue the fact that the
traffic they send is genuine and high quality... If this is truly
the case, then why are their programmers consistently adding
ant-cheat features to their program? And why the decline in leads
generated from lead capture pages? A simple explanation of why
"What is good for on-line marketing today will be gone tomorrow" can
be summed up by saying this; "As more, and more people learn about a
good thing, so will more people learn to cheat the systems and
create situations for personal gain or advantage".
And once again, the end result is... A bunch of automated, and
impersonal marketing messages flying back forth across the Internet,
without ever being seen by human eyes.
Free advertising does not work, and plenty of paid Internet
advertising is simply derived from sources who collect contact
information using any number of the methods explained above. And
then by selling these "hits" or "leads" to other online marketers
over and over for a handsome profit.
So what IS the answer?
To help us determine the future of Internet marketing we can
actually go back to the roots and the inception of the Internet...
In the beginning there were only close-knit groups "communities"
made up of computer programmers, educational institutions and
government officials using the Internet to communicate.
During this evolutionary time period, email was the primary method
of communication and is still the most simple, understandable method
of communicating online... even for beginners.
Even today, in the more commercialized setting of the Internet, If
you wish to see any real results, you must advertise your products,
services or business announcements to a "community" of people who
are receptive to your messages and who are either looking to buy, or
sell something. Both eBay and Yahoo are excellent examples of
large generalized communities.
From a marketing standpoint. email marketing is fast, effective and
dirt-
cheap... And because it's so easy to click from an email to a
website "purchase" button... an email campaign can reap up to 12
times the response rates of ordinary junk mail.
However, recent on-going legislation and the ever increasing problem
of UCE or SPAM will completely change the way small business is
conducted on the Internet in the months and years to come.
As each day passes, the future of Internet marketing is being
re-defined
Despite these rapid changes taking place, CNN recently reported that
companies who neglect to incorporate email into their overall
marketing strategies will have a difficult time surviving on the
Internet.
Just like in the beginning, the key of course, is permission based
"communities". Without permission, it's just spam -- and spamming
can land you in plenty of hot water. However, when done correctly
permission bulk email is perfectly ok and extremely effective!
The future is here
Recent on-going legislation, along with the ever increasing problem
of UCE or SPAM will completely change the way small business is
conducted on the Internet, in the months and years to come.
Specialized permission based email "communities" with paid
membership and moderated advertising -- IS the future of Internet
marketing.
One of the key ingredients for a successful community is "paid"
because without paid participation there is no perceived value to
the participants, and the other is moderation because without
moderation this would simply become another useless and abused
Internet marketing medium.
If you'll remember, an email campaign can reap up to 12 times the
response rates of ordinary junk mail simply because it is so easy to
click from an email, directly to a website "purchase" button.
Could this missing ingredient be the answer for your small business?
