Welcome
to my page about
What is a Safelist?
A Safelist is a email mailing list that anyone can join. It enables
you to send email offers to all the other members in exchange for
agreeing to receive email from those other members. So you get to
mail and, in turn, you agree to receive mail too. Safelists are what
is known as "Opt In", which means, you opt to, or choose to join
under the rules of the particularly Safelist always accepting to
receive opportunities and offers via your email, from other members.
This means no one gets spammed.
Some Safelists are free while others have various levels of
Membership including Pro, Platinum, Executive and suchlike where
differing levels of monthly or annual fees will apply. Those
that charge a fee normally offer you the ability to send mail
without having to receive any mail in return. There are also
normally other benefits and advantageous features to paid
membership.
So how does this crazy arrangement work?
Don't people just sign up with a Yahoo, Hotmail or similar
free email accounts and never read the mail in order to get to send
their own mail?
Well... It used to be that way. Not any more. ;)
Today, Safelists have come of age! It had to happen. After
all, every advertising medium usually starts out, a little rough at
the edges and gradually becomes more polished, as time and
experience allows. Safelists have now grown up and matured in three
important ways.
1. In order to get people to actually read the mail that gets
sent, many smart Safelist operators now give away points or cash
money in return for reading their Safelist's emails. The trick is,
they hide it in some random email. So in order to win, for example,
a $1,000.00, you've got to read ALL that Safelist's mail. This
strategy alone has caused Safelists to become very appealing, since
much more of the mail is now being read.
2. Safelist owners have instituted
rules to stop people from ruining their list. By placing a
limit on how often you are allowed to post, banning attachments and
suchlike. Safelist operators tend to control their lists far more
tightly.
3. Safelists have become web-based. This is the big one. These days,
you NEVER download a list, add it to your address book and send to
it via your email program. Nowadays, it's all on the web and you can
send your message to each list in a matter of a few minutes. The
mail is sent from their web server, not yours.
Why Use a Safelist?
This one is easy. Ever see those ads, 'Send your message to a
zillion people a day without spamming!!!' While the message may be
what you find at the north end of a south bound bull, the IDEA is
not!
Safelists today attract thousands and thousands of people who want
to promote their affiliate programmes and opportunities they
recently joined, test market a new product or service, get people to
sign up for their newsletter and more. These people are opportunity
seekers. While they many not read the latest herbal remedy ad that
is sent to them unsolicited, they DO pay attention to ads from the
Safelist that interest them. There are thousands of members to
advertise to every day!
How To Use a Safelist
If you are going to use a Safelist to promote your product, service
or opportunity, do it the smart way. Here are some key elements to
help you get started. This is hard won information folks, so use it
wisely.
1. ONLY use web-based Safelists. NEVER download a list, buy a CD or
anything else where you send the mail from your ISP. No need to do
this. If you do, you run the risk of loosing your Internet
connection and more! If you stick with web-based Safelists you
will not go wrong and the probability is that you will do well.
2. Follow the rules. I know you wouldn't violate the rules on
purpose, but who has time to read all that fine print?
Let me save you some time. Do NOT promote porn or hate, don't use an
autoresponder as the email address where you receive mail and don't
post more often that you are allowed (each list has different
rules)! Follow these basic points and you will be fine on 99% of
Safelists. When you can, DO read the Safelists rules though. Just to
be doubly sure. So go forth and make money!
3. Here's an insider tip I picked up... can't remember where but the
thought has stayed with me! This one really works, although it
sounds... well, a little stupid! Don't try to sell your primary
product on Safelists.
Told you it sounded stupid. ;) What I mean is this; People on
Safelist read a *lot* of mail.
Don't try to close the sale in the three to five seconds they give
you. That is virtually impossible!
Think of it just like you would a classified ad. Use a powerful
headline (subject line) and try to create curiosity about your
product or offer. Get the reader curious or interested enough, to
want to ask for more information or visit your website. Use
Safelists to get prospects into your marketing system! Then,
let your follow-up system... YOUR Autoresponder, go on to
make the pitch... AND CLOSE THE SALE FOR YOU!
Don't hype it up and don't over promise. Make sure that what you
offer is the real deal. Explain the benefits! What's in it for them?
That's what they REALLY want to hear. If at all possible, try
to write your own ad so you don't sound like a hundred and one othes!
4. Target your ad. Really good Safelists are broken into categories.
You will notice this when you join many lists, not all... but many.
You can choose which Categories interest you most, when you join.
Look out for these tyes of lists. This way, you can advertise to a
smaller BUT much more targeted group of people who have expressed a
prior interest in your product or opportunity's subject or Category.
5. Use the power of repetition. Get a great ad. Go to your Safelists
on a regular basis. Set yourself a schedule and post the same ad
over and over. This really works! The reason it works is because
repetition is the mother of learning (statistics show and prove that
people need to see the same ad seven times before they actually buy
or commit!) and, of course, because so many new people join the
Safelists every day!
It doesn't matter if you are sick to death of your ad. It matters
that your ad works. When it stops working, pull it. Until then, if
it ain't broke ... don't fix it.
Are Safelists Safe?
To be sure, there was a dark side to the old fashioned Safelists.
You would sign up and get spam coming out of your ... ear. There is
still a case and it may well still makes sense to use a free email
account on Safelists. However, this is not as critical as it used to
be. Nowadays, I could just pay a little, become a Pro or Upgraded
Member and choose not to receive mail. Most good lists offer
this option to their paid Members! Just look for those that
do!
The good news is that Safelists have been around long enough now, to
become a legitimate Internet marketing tool, even if most of your
competitors haven't figured that out yet. But then... that's
good for you isn't it?
Big-time Internet marketers like Andrew Fox and Lawrence Pryor have
started their own Safelist services. Most well-known Internet
marketers have used Safelists from time to time to boost sales or
add new subscribers to their ezine.
Is there anything I
need to know about the sign up process?
Yes... One
or two points to remember.
When
filling out the sign up form, be careful when entering your email
address. Make sure you understand what address they are asking for.
Your Contact Email refers to your main email address, which will be
used for verification and Admin purposes. When they refer to
your Safelist address, that's the email address where the Safelists'
Members offers will be sent to. If they only ask for one email
address, give them the Safelist Subscriber email address that you
wish to use to receive the offers from the Members.
What is email
verification?
When you
sign up for a Safelist, usually before you can send an ad to the
list, you will be required to verify that the email address you have
submitted is valid. In other words that it is working and the
emails the Safelist will send to you will actually arrive and not
bounce! To do this you will click a button that will send an
email to your Subscriber email account. You must then open that
email and click on a link to verify your email address is valid. For
this reason, it's always a good idea to empty your Trash/Deleted
Items folder before you sign up or send an ad in a Safelist, because
finding the verification email will be easier with a empty Trash /
Deleted Items folder.
How do I keep track
of the Safelists I join?
Keeping
track of the Safelist you join and are a Member of is important and
difficult if you don't organise yourself properly. Best and
simplest way I found was this; Create a folder in your Favourites called Safelists. After you
sign up and get your personalised site, add it to your Favorites for
quick access. At the same time, open up a simple Notepad text
document and list your Safelists in there. Use it as you might
use a note book. Just copy the name of the Safelist, the URL, your
username, your password, how often you can post an ad, the number of
current Members etc., whatever you feel you will find useful.
I found all those mentioned useful at some time or other... but it
is not absolutely necessary as, if you have the URL, all you need to
do is visit the site and you will get the info there.
Another very useful tool, which does
not solely apply to Safelists but your Business in general, is
RoboForm!
RoboForm is just
THE best password manager on the net. Easy to use, does not
pop up ads in my face or grab information from me. Most importantly,
it simply works well. I could not live (work) without it!
You can download RoboForm free
here.
Where do I find ads to advertise in the Safelists?
All good
Affiliate Programs offer tailor made emails that you can use to
advertise and promote your programmes with Safelists. You will find several ads,
I am sure in the Advertising/Marketing/Promotional section of
your programme's website. If you decide to write your own ad, keep it short, no
one reads ads that are too long. Get right to the point.
Make sure you tell the reader in the first couple of sentences... "What's
in it for him"!!
Is it important to have a good subject line?
Yes, the subject line is probably the most important part of your
ad! If people don't find your subject line interesting, if
they don't find it "eye-catching", if they don't find it at all...
they
will never click on it! If they don't click on your Ad
subject line to open it, they will
never READ your ad. Yes... your subject line should grab the readers
attention... and make them want to know more. You will find some
subject lines to use in Safelists in the Advertising Material
section of your website.
Does it cost anything to join a Safelist?
Most Safelists offer a FREE membership to join.
They also offer differing levels such as Pro, Premium, Executive,
Platinum etc. Each level varying in price and of course the
features and benefits it buys you. These vary greatly from
list to list. Normally, Free Members are restricted in when
and to whom they can send. Typically, a Free Member can send
to the whole list once every seven days. Some lists allow Free
members to also mail to portions or categories within the list once
every 48 hours. It just varies from list to list and you
really have to check each one of them out to find out for yourself
what Member options and benefits and of course what costs are
involved!
Where can I find other Safelists?
One way to find new Safelists is to scroll through the subject
lines of the mail sent to you by Safelist Members, once you join. Look for new Safelists
being promoted by these members, Safelists that are just launching.
You can often receive some good offers such as a Pro
Membership for FREE if you are one of the first few hundred to join.
If it helps, I have naturally my own current Safelist List and I
have published my favourite
Safelists here.
Is there anything else I need to do before I
sign up for a Safelist?
Yes! Before you sign up to a Safelist make sure you have two
working
email accounts or addresses in place! One to receive your
Admin emails, the second one, more importantly, specifically for the emails
you will receive from your
Subscribed Safelists' Members!
If you haven't got these yet, you must open a
couple of
new email accounts, because as soon as you sign up you're going to
start to receive a lot of emails from other Members of these lists.
You do not want all of those emails coming to your main email
account.
The best thing to do is to have proper
email accounts. These are available at quite reasonable
prices. Email me if you wish to get info on one that I offer
which is very workable!
Alternatively, you can open a free
email account with Hotmail.com or Yahoo.com. Be careful where
you get your account as many Safelists have long lists of email
providers who are banned because these either do not work very well
or have SPAM blockers and cause your emails to bounce.
Bouncing emails, as already mentioned, will cause Safelists to place
you "On Vacation" and you will need to constantly verify your
Subscriber email! Continuous bouncing will cause your Safelist
to stop your account! So... choose your email account
carefully and read the list of banned email providers that many
Safelists publish.
Auto Submitters
The other tool I would strongly recommend you use is a good Auto
Submitter! What is an Auto Submitter? Submitting to
many, at times, hundreds of Safelists can be a very laborious task.
An Auto Submitter basically takes away most of the very time
consuming and duplicative actions. With a good Auto Submitter,
you get a ready made "Available Safelists" list! You simply
fire up (Start) your Auto Submitter... normally stored on your PC's
Desktop... you search through the available lists, pick and choose
which you like or have been recommended to you and join them.
You then go through the process of becoming verified, as explained
above and once verified, you can submit your ads! All within
the one control panel or window. They really simplify your
Safelist experience and I strongly recommend you get one.
There are various very good Auto Submitters on the market. The
one I use, my favourite, is
SafeList Boys Submitter. You can obtain this great
tool for the huge price of $5.00... I know... horrendous! It
will be the best $5.00 you'll ever spend in Advertising your
programmes! Best thing is... they also offer a very good
referral programme! So if you click my link
here...
Thanks!
Another excellent Submitter is Michael
Rasmussen and Tom Dahne's Automatic Safelist Submitter software!
You can send email messages to thousands of targeted buyers at ease,
with this great tool. You can download it and obtain all
future SMass™ releases FREE for life. Here's a recent
Testimonial:
"Part of what I do at SafelistSupplies.com is test tools
safelist users
may use. I've poked and prodded several Safelist Auto
Submitters that are available and I believe SMASS™ is
possibly the easiest to use and most feature rich Safelist
Submitter available. Features and functions such as
Auto-Join and Auto-Post are perfect examples of how this
great program can save any safelist user many hours of
work. I believe SMASS™ will be an extremely useful tool in
any safelisters arsenal."
